Moroccan king to bolster Ivory Coast-Morocco cooperation

For a second time in a year, His Majesty Mohammed VI, the King of Morocco arrived in the Ivorian capital city Abidjan for a four-day working visit.

The Moroccan monarch who was accompanied by a large delegation of businessmen was welcomed at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny airport on Sunday, 23rd February by the Ivorian premier and the Parliament spokesperson. Official sources say, the Ivory Coast’s 72-year old president, Alassane Ouattara is recovering in France after an operation to alleviate pain from a spina.

Mohammed VI will chair the Ivorian-Moroccan economic forum to open this morning in Abidjan; a meeting set to maintain and cement the growing economic bonds between the two countries. More and more Moroccan companies and groups are setting up business and investing in Ivory Coast since 2011, which is back on the path to sustainable growth.

The second biggest cement plant of the country, CIMAF, was financed by Moroccan funds and produce some 500,000 tonnes of cement per year. A leading Moroccan real estate company, the Addoha Group, is to build 7500 housing units in Abidjan.

Mohammed VI’s trip to Ivory Coast demonstrates the excellence ties binding the West African country and his kingdom. The Moroccan monarch is due to leave Abidjan on 26 February for the next leg of his tour which will take him to Guinea and Gabon.
